Child Welfare Tips: What Childcare Providers and Parents Should KnowChild Welfare Tips: What Childcare Providers and Parents Should Know
July 30, 2019Foster Programs / ParentingThere are many circumstances where parents are pushed to adopt a child. You may have no capability to have one due to health issues. There may be a problem with your genes that makes having a biological child impossible. In short, adopting a child is definitely possible. But in reality, there’s nothing impossible. Even if you’re diagnosed to have no ability to give birth, sometimes there’s an off chance of going against the odds. You adopt a child thinking you can’t have biological kids but promptly had one. So, what will you do now with an adopted and biological child? As you may guess, there will be a lot of conflicts between them. That’s why you should know about parenting and caretaking tips with mixed family structures. How to Prepare Your Kids Whether you’re having a biological child after adopting one, or adopting a child while having biological kids, you have to prepare your existing kids beforehand. If your existing kids came from the mother directly, it’s important to assert your love to the adopted child. You should act like they’re invaluable and can never be replaced so they won’t ever think of abusing their adopted siblings like it’s okay. In the case of having adopted kids first, it’s important to help them know that you understand what it feels to not come from your tummy. They aren’t the type to envy your coming children, but they’ll often grieve the fact that they aren’t your children biologically. It would also help if you involve them in things such as designing a baby room, and more. That way, they’ll appreciate the effort they put in helping and they’ll definitely want to talk to the arriving children about it. What’s different with this family structure?   In terms of the interaction between children, there’s really nothing different. There’s also no abuse of some sorts, both physically or verbally. However, what you need to watch out for as parents are treating one of them different than the other. Knowing that they’ll feel that being a biological or adopted child has to do something about it. This can then lead to bullying and more forms of abuse, mainly between the siblings. Do you need help? There’s no need to worry about a bit of teasing and such, but if there’s a noticeable behavior problem with one of them, it calls for a solution. You can solve such problems by going for consulting services or other agencies like ours. By taking care of the conflict between your children, you’re eliminating the possibility of them abusing each other, physically but mainly, verbally. Don’t expect that there will NEVER be a conflict between your children even with these tips. But remember that even little progress means everything when it comes to your family. Persevere and maybe you’ll be able to reach a conclusion where your children can get along with each other even with their differences. Need more great parenting advice? 5 Key Aspects of Adopting a Child Living in an Orphanage5 Key Aspects of Adopting a Child Living in an Orphanage
June 25, 2019ParentingBecoming a foster parent is not easy. There will be a conflict between spouses, issues between children, and more. You may also struggle with resources. That’s why it’s important for those that desire to be a foster parent, they need to take care of matters before anything else. Maturity, stability (both financially and mentally), among others are important factors when it comes to adopting. There are many things to take care of in order for you to have the ability to work towards helping your adopted child. So here we look at the five key aspects that you must have before you can adopt and successfully take care of a foster child. Have a kid-friendly home First of all, you must ensure that you have your own house where everyone living there supports your idea of adopting a child. That way, there will be no conflicts between your housemates. Since foster children already have experience with a home that doesn’t care about them, you should change it by providing them with a stable and loving home. Have a job that can support children Another aspect to take care of before you can adopt and successfully raise a foster child is your financial status. You must make sure that you can provide them with a healthy life given that your job can support them financially. There’s no reason for you to wait until you’re rich. Just ensure that you can secure their basic needs. Be 21 years old or over Of course, there will be an age requirement for adopting a child. Plus, you’ll have to do some paperwork to prove it. It’s necessary for foster parents to have a fully matured mind so that abandonment or abuse won’t be a problem for the fostering agency. Rough upbringings were common for foster children and so we most definitely don’t want them to go through that again. Have a means of transportation On their first days with you, foster children will have to go through an arduous process. Pre-school or daycare is already a given, but they’d also most likely have to go to therapists for their regular sessions. That’s why in addition to having a stable home and income, you must have a way to send them to school regularly and to other activities. Have enough time for your foster child Lastly, you must remember that even with a stable income, home, and transportation, you won’t be able to develop love and concern without spending much time with your foster child. This is just like with biological children, so there shouldn’t be any problem with complying in this step. There are many other things that you’ll need before adopting a child, but these five are the most important ones. Remember that each of your actions before adopting reflects upon your potential as a foster parent. You must not take things lightly and view foster children as ordinary kids because they’ve been through a lot. [...]

May 30, 2019Foster Programs / ParentingThere have been many organizations that had hosted foster programs for youth, but only a few of them have made a lasting change. However, the housing program that was just recently announced is one of the most expected programs to help youth who were in bad situations. Check out how it works and why it can help abandoned children with their guidelines. We’ll also look at how we see this program in the future. Transitional Housing Program Statistics found that many youths that left foster care had rough experiences such as being homeless, alone, or even in jail. If worse comes to worst, they are even found dead due to lack of support. The transitional housing program helps youth leave orphanages or any other kind of foster care with support, particularly in the shelter aspect. What Happens to the Youth in the Program? Those that benefit from the program can now go to school or go to work. If they have children, there’s also another set of programs for them that helps them while they’re unable to care for themselves. It’s great because even with the help of tycoons by supporting youth around the world, it’s still not enough to prevent them from experiencing horrible situations. But with this program suggested by many foundations around the US, it’s finally possible for youth under foster care to get out of childcare centers without suffering. There are many foundations around the world that hold programs that help children or the youth in general. While some of them didn’t really work out, this one is likely to pull it off once and for all. So, it’s important to support this program so that it may be put in place as soon as possible. [...]
Finding the Best Childcare Center for Adopted ChildrenFinding the Best Childcare Center for Adopted Children
May 1, 2019Foster Programs / ParentingAnyone who has tried taking care of foster children will know the enjoyment of doing such a task. Ask any foster caretaker and most of them, if not all, will tell you just how it made a wonderful difference in their life and their journey. While it can be a bit overwhelming to be a foster caretaker or a foster parent, in the long run, you’ll find it very rewarding at the end of the day. So, there’s really no reason for you to not do your best at it. Since you won’t always be by the side of your adopted child, you need to ensure that they still have fun nonetheless. That’s why we look at how you can find the best childcare centers for your foster child where they won’t be treated differently. Before Searching Before searching for a foster care center, you should think about your foster children. Since they’ve experienced being stripped off their home once, you shouldn’t do it again. That said, make sure wherever you’re going to send them off to, even if only for a while, they should be comfortable with it. You should also make sure you know your kids very well so you can find a foster care center that fits their needs, as well as their strengths. If they excel in academics, find one that focuses on that aspect, for example. During Your First Visit This phase is mainly asking questions to the childcare center. The most important question of all is to ask about their knowledge of the foster care system. They should also have policies for behavior issues that foster children are showing since it’s common for kids like them. Finally, make sure you ask them what their actions are regarding the communication between you, the parent, and them, the daycare center. By learning about fostering agencies, you’ll know which is best for you and how you can adopt a child from there. Plus, you won’t have to undergo a time-consuming process. Just remember that there can be changes in the law which will, in turn, change the system of some fostering agencies. [...]
Success as Foster Parents with the Help of Childcare CentersSuccess as Foster Parents with the Help of Childcare Centers
April 24, 2019Foster Programs / ParentingBeing a foster parent is a time-consuming task, and there is no way it is going to be easy. However, that’s not to say it’s not very rewarding. In fact, as far as foster parenting is concerned, every effort you put in it is really worth it. However, even those that want to make their parenting better fail to do so. That’s why sometimes, you’ll have to accept the help given by childcare centers. After all, doing your best is part of a parent’s job. Knowing how to do so will allow them to see their kid’s progress and act accordingly. So here are some of the benefits of sending your adopted child to pre-school and childcare centers to convince you that it will be a good idea to do so. Improved Grades Foster children have undergone rough upbringings and this often contributes to their poor performance at school. That’s why as a foster parent, helping them focus on their studies is one of your jobs. And therefore, one way to help them start seeing improvement on the foster child’s grades is sending them to a pre-school center. It’s not only necessarily concerned with academics though, but also in other aspects of school life. Improved Social Life One of those aspects is the social life of students. This is another job of a foster parent, to promote socialization and having a good set of friends. Also, remember that having negative friends can often influence your children to do bad things without your consent. Seeing them have friends, and friendly ones to boot will definitely ensure the success of your foster parenting. Participation in Activities In addition to the academics and grades of your child, you shouldn’t pass along the opportunity of participating in activities. Help them learn about the importance of such activities and once you notice the start of their passion for such activities, that means you’ve been successful with this job. There are many ways to define success. But overall, you just need to see improvement in your foster child. Once you see that they’re doing what they didn’t do before, you can find out that you’ve done a great job as a foster parent. And remember to just keep at it because you’ll find that foster parenting is one of the most rewarding tasks in the world. Visit My Quest Montessori for more child care tips! [...]
